Dr. Shashank Rathod is one of the earliest pioneers in the Phaco-Emulsification Cataract Removal technique in India. trained in Australia, Israel, Japan and USA in the field of Cataract Micro Surgery, he has presented many academic papers in his field of specialization at various national and international conferences and is a life-time member of Ophthalmologic Associations such as the Surgical Eye Expedition (SEE) , USA and the Indo Japanese Ophthalmologic Foundation.

He is often invited as a guest speaker at various seminars held all over the country and also to demonstrate live surgeries at various national and international conferences. He has by now the credit of performing more than 15,000 phaco-emulsification cataract surgeries.

Although he is totally committed to his profession, he is equally dedicated to community service. In fact, he has used his profession to serve the disadvantaged sections of society by performing thousands of operations free of cost through Rotary Clubs, Brahmakumaries and other NGOs in India and abroad. A newspaper reporter has described him as "A visionary who restores vision."

He is recipient of many awards and recognitions for his exemplary services. In 2001 the Governor of the Kentucky State (USA) conferred him with "Kentucky Colonel" Award, prestigious& biggest award of State of Kentucky, USA. Dena Bank on its 66th Anniversary conferred Dr. Shashank along with some other dignitaries of the country with excellence award, in recognition of his outstanding service to the society particularly in the area of avoidable blindness eradication.

Dr. Shashank served as District Governor of Rotary International and has been entrusted with various international assignments.
